August 30, 2004Home Grown TomatoesWhen we moved into our new condo, my wife decided that our balcony would serve as a substitute for having a real yard, and subsequently planted all kinds of vegetables in a plethora of pots. We've got tomatoes, green peppers, carrots, radishes, and a host of herbs. The fresh basil is pretty darn good, but nothing, and I mean nothing touches those tomatoes. What on earth is it that makes fresh tomatoes ripened on the vine taste so damn good? Even "vine ripened organic" tomatoes from a produce store don't compare to these in taste... and ours are grown on a balcony in the middle of the city!! A caprese salad with fresh basil and tomatoes from our "balcony garden" just can't be beat. Comments
